Some have argued that mysticism is not religious in nature and can’t be reconciled with religion; hence, some groups have adopted mysticism and parted from religion while other have strictly adhere to religion and got in quandaries with mysticism. Those who consider mysticism reconcilable with religion have different opinions on the relationship they entertain. Some have argued that mysticism is the essence of religion while other have considered it an element of religion. We suggest that the relationship between religion and mysticism must be assessed by the study of their nature. In the current article, we argue and demonstrate that mysticism is not against religion nor foreign to religion; it is not like religion, nor an element of religion, but rather is the <em>esoteric dimension of religion</em>. With this perspective, numerous questions and ambiguities related to the relationship of mysticism and religion are answered and their respective nature becomes clearer. Moreover, we also suggest a methodology for distinguishing between authentic and unauthentic forms of mysticism. یکی از مباحث کلیدی و سرنوشت‌ساز دربارة عرفان و دین تعیین نسبت میان آن‌هاست. برخی عرفان را غیر از دین و حتی ناسازگار با آن می‌دانند. بر همین اساس، گروهی به عرفان دل‌بسته و از دین گسسته‌اند، و جمعی به دین پیوسته با عرفان به نزاع برخاسته‌اند. کسانی هم که عرفان را با دین سازگار می‌دانند در تعیین نسبت میان آن دو اختلاف نظر دارند. برخی عرفان را عین دین یا گوهر آن تلقی می‌کنند و دسته‌ای آن را جزئی از اجزای دین به‌شمار می‌آورند. تعیین نسبت میان دین و عرفان جز با کاوش در ماهیت دین و عرفان ممکن نیست. نظریه‌ای که در این مقاله تبیین و اثبات می‌شود این است که عرفان نه ضد دین، نه بیگانه از دین، نه عین دین، و نه جزئی از اجزای دین است، بلکه عرفان باطن دین است. در پرتو این نظریه بسیاری از پرسش‌ها و شبهاتی که در‌بارة عرفان و رابطة آن با دین وجود دارد نیز پاسخ داده می‌شود. با حل این مسئله ضمن روشن‌شدن نسبت دین و عرفان، چیستی آن‌ها نیز بهتر دانسته می‌شود. علاوه‌بر این، معیاری روشن برای تشخیص عرفان اصیل از عرفان‌های ناقص، التقاطی، و شبه‌عرفان‌ها به‌دست می‌آید. https://wisdom.ihcs.ac.ir/article_733_9401108703242e3c6ec27e1f4090d911.pdf
